I was 22 and living with my boyfriend. Our attempt at the rhythm method of birth control had failed, and I knew it instantly. My boyfriend thought I was crazy. He denied any possibility that I could know right away.

That night, after he fell asleep, I shed tears. I cried silently and watched his spine move in time to his breath.

I kept firm with my decision that I should abort. My boyfriend had been against abortion, until he faced fatherhood and realized that he couldn't support us and didn't want to. I knew that this was not the person with whom I wanted to spend the rest of my life.

After the abortion I was relieved. If our relationship worked out, he and I would have plenty of time for children. Six months later we broke up.
